More About the Author

The Augsburg House of Prayer, Germany

The Augsburg House of Prayer was founded in 2005 by Johannes and his wife Jutta, with a vision to seek God day and night in prayer. Year on year, Christians of different denominations and generations come to this House of Prayer to pray together.

Why do they come to pray?

Because Jesus is worth it.
Because prayer changes the atmosphere.
Because you need places to experience and learn prayer.
Prayer is not everything, but without prayer everything is nothing.

How it all began…
From www.gebetshaus.org

The 80s and 90s of the 20th century marked the beginning of various prayer movements around the world and across Christian denominations. Soon after a drastic conversion experience at the age of 14, Johannes Hartl was already infected by the idea of praying longer together with other young people. The first prayer nights and prayer weekends took place in the 90s with other young people who like Johannes belonged to the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church.

He and his wife Jutta slowly developed the idea of a spiritual center, which should offer especially young people a space of passionate Christian spirituality. During a visit to Kansas City’s International House of Prayer (founded by Mike Bickle), the vision continued to gain clarity, combining with an early fascination of 24-hour prayer. Increasingly, Jutta and Johannes saw it as a clear call from God to open a center in Germany where prayer does not remain silent during the day and at night. Much later, they learnt that there were already several small prayer groups in Augsburg, who had prayed for a 24-hour prayer center there!
